when i skate for a while, my back starts to hurt. mainly lower back.

i think this is normal but I'm not sure. I want to know how to get my back to stop hurting while i skate. i don't know if it;s because i'm bending down to much. But is there a certain technique or posture to use while skating?

  1. On figure or hockey skates you should be bending from your knees for balance.  Unless you're training for speed skating, your back should be straight up.  Once you get comfortable bending your knees deeper than you think you have to then you should be able to keep your balance just fine.  That is the proper way to skate and you'll know you're doing it right because your quads will be sore instead.

  2. try staying on ur feet

  3. yeah skating ruined my back too go to the chiropractor and then after alot of treatments you can skate again

  4. Hi, I used to have that problem. Occasionally, I get that problem back.

The root of my problem is my posture. Not in the knees, but that I bend in my lower back. Meaning, instead of having a totally straight upper body, my lower back is pushed to the front. Jumping and spinning took its toll and it hurt. But I realised the problem when I asked myself what is the difference between walking and skating.

Before skating, stand up, take a walk, feel how you are. Really feel and be conscious. Go to the ice, feel how you are skating. Unless you're not taught the proper ways, skating should not cause tightness or aches.

    Good luck with your trouble!

  5. Well I go to the Skate park Alot to see me guy Friends. So I think I'm more than qualified to answer this :)

Um, how are you bending when you do ?

You cant really twist your back when you do. That would throw you off balance.

How often do you fall ? That could have alot to do with it.

But its probably just because you're bending down alot. The muscles in your back are tired.

Nothing is wrong. just buy a heating pad, and sleep with it nights you skate.

    Hope I helped you :)

  6. You should try to have good posture. Are you trying to do anything like a spiral? or a beilman? Because that can cause back pain.

  7. do back stretches. lean back like you are in a layback.

and bend forwards as if to touch your toes, then lock your arms at the back of your knees so you wont release yourself and push up as if to get up (but dont) this will stretch out your back even further. do this everyday and you'll see improvement.

  8. I had this problem, my back used to hurt when i stood still. It still does sometimes... What i did was after i skated i used to stretch my legs, then my back by holding the layback position for 10 seconds then stretched forwards and put the palms of my hands on the floor well my legs were still upright. My back was just not used to being twisted and bended that much, and the stretches not only solved my back ache but also made me more flexible to. Also i bought a mattress topper. Its a foam sheet that fits over your mattress which molds to your body, that helped to.

  9. Have you been skating for long? If it's only been a week or two it might go away. I know that when we take our trampoline out for summer after it being away all winter my back really hurts for a few days but then it is okay.

If the pain persists, ask some friends to video you skating and compare your stance to the pros on video sites like youtube. That might give you some clues. Failing that you should probably see a doctor.

    Good luck! :)
