It was in Europe I believe. And again to reiterate: The trains ran under the track. Thanks.

  1. Someone posted a link here a few months ago that showed one in operation.  The tram way was in London, if I'm not mistaken.

It seems to fit the definition of an inverted mono-rail, but I don't recall what its name was.  Perhaps that person will see this and help ya out.

  2. Sounds like the Schwebebahn or 'Hanging Railway' of Wuppertal, Germany.

This is about 100 years old and runs on an elevated monorail track above the river Wupper for about 11km. The trains are suspended beneath the track, hence the name.

As far as I know, this is unique. Other monorails exist, e.g. the maglev, but these have the train running on top of the track.

  3. This was not necessaily a special kind of train. It may have been down to Railtrack's maintenance policy and the so-called "privatisation" of British railways.

I think you're referring to the Schwebebahn monorail in Wuppertal, Germany.

  4. theres many like that. they are the high speed electric trains.  the rail is actually a type of guide wire that carries the electrical current.  when the track wheel glide along that wire it carries the electric to the train itself.

  5. It is called the Schwebebahn railway, it is located in Wuppertal,Germanyit is very interesting.

to visit web sites about it just type in   Wuppertal,Germany or you can type in Schwebebahn Railway either one will take to sites about this amazing train

  6. ive never heard of that, maybe it was a fictional magazine.

  7. maybe you're thinking of a suspended monorail, like this:

  8. This seems to be a description of an inverted monorail.  The cars are suspended from an electrical rail which connects to the traction device on the roof.  It is not a very common method of transport.

Electrified trains, trams and trolly buses have the conventional method of tractition in this case electric motors and run on rails or by the use of ordinary wheels and tyres.  They get their power supply from an overhead electrified gantry connected to the vehicle by a conduction device mounted on the roof of the train, tram or trolley.
