Back injury: Houston Texans leave TE Owen Daniels a game-time call – NFL News
The Houston Texans have confirmed leaving tight end Owen Daniels a game-time decision as the player could not manage to participate in full practice session this week.
Daniels with a back injury remained limited in Friday’s practice and the team is not decisive about taking him back in the squad amid the situation.
Coach Gary Kubiak has said they will evaluate the player just before their Sunday (Nov. 11) game versus the Chicago Bears to see if he is fully fit to play.
He said:
"He was very limited. He did some of the individual stuff early in practice, took a couple of reps, still very sore. We've got a little extra time, because we play Sunday night, so we'll continue to give him every opportunity to get there. I know it's very
important to him, but we've got a ways to go."
The official did not elaborate about the impact the player’s absence is likely to have on the team’s performance.
He leads the team with touchdown receptions while stays second in total receptions (37) just behind wide receiver Andre Johnson.
The TE himself has avoided the media to answer lingering doubt about his health and fitness, which has led to an impression that he may well be out of the side for the weekend game.
It may not bode well with the Texans’ hopes of getting away with another victory, over the hosts the Bears.
It is prominent to mention here that the Texans at the moment lead the American Football Conference (AFC) South with 7-1 record. A couple of more wins will make sure their lead remains intact as the Indianapolis Colts 6-3 are fast catching on with them.
After reaching the playoffs for the first time in their history last season, they have come out on the field as Super Bowl contenders. They have performed remarkably well and up to the expectations.
Daniels remains their key player along with QB Matt Schaub, Arian Foster and Andre Johnson, and although it is not confirmed yet, his absence will certainly be missed by the team.
