Back injury sidelines http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Daryl-Mitchell-c52533 Marsh for rest of season – Cricket News Update
The rising Australia all-rounder http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mitchell-Marsh-c1974 has been sidelined for the rest of the 2011-12 season, after suffering a stress injury in his back.
The 20-year-old top order batsman from Perth bowled a lengthy spell in the Sydney Cricket Ground nets during http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Simon-James-Marshall-c90362’s lower-back
bone, and is likely to miss the remainder of the ongoing triangular Commonwealth Bank series, also featuring http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758.
Australian team physio, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Alex-Kountouris-c43123 confirmed Marsh’s injury. "Mitch complained of quite significant lower-back pain during yesterday's training session at the SCG," said Kountouris speaking to media reporters on Friday morning,
ahead of the Australia-Sri Lanka match.
"After assessing him and considering his age we organised scans in Sydney last night that have confirmed our suspicions of a lower-back bone stress injury,” he added further.
Asked about the time frame for a comeback, Kountouris said that the emerging all-rounder will undergo scans in Melbourne on Saturday to determine the extent of the injury, and a recovery plan will be outlined only after that.
"He will have further scans tomorrow in Melbourne to determine the extent of the injury, which will help outline the period of rest required from cricket,” said the physiotherapist.
“We expect that he will not play as a bowler for the remainder of this season but will be in a position to provide further information once we have the results of tomorrow's scans," he added further.
Marsh, who failed to impress in the two-match T20 series against India earlier this month, has been part of the Australian squad throughout the CB series, but has been unable to ouster fellow all-rounder http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Daniel-Christian-c1308 in any of
the tri-series matches played so far.
Marsh, 20, made his international debut in October last year against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757 at Johannesburg in a T20 match. To date he has played three T20 Internationals, compiling 49 runs at an average of 24.50. His solitary One Day International
appearance had also come during the same tour where he scored an unbeaten 8 against the Proteas and claimed a wicket as well.
No replacement has yet been announced for the injured all-rounder.
