Back many years ago we would lock up the bums on the grates, what are they called now?

We would not actually lock them up, but take them to a warm facility called detox.

I did feel sorry for most of them and helped them all I could, even let them finish their wine before getting there if they were no trouble.

  1. Wow.... that is suprising coming from a cop....too bad we can't duplicate you.....not enough of that attitude now a days

  2. I don't know, I guess they are called drunks, winos, or homeless people, or bums.

Kudos to you for helping out people in need.  Some people are just lost souls looking for attention and others are troublemakers.

  3. The majority are not wineos like you seem to think. Most are the mentally ill that the for-profit institutions cannot help. They are just people who nobody will hire, nobody want they around, and they try to stay alive on the streets and in the alleys. Face it, we do not have unlimited resources, particularly, when it usually has poor results. Money matters, and we must live within our means. It is just one of those unfortunate outcomes for some people. We must be strong and live within out means.

Reminds me of the old movie "They Shoot Horses, Don't They?" I cannot take them in, you cannot take them in and we just don't want to even see them.

We tend to scorn them and prefer they stay out of sight and not on the news. We are too easily reminded that there but for fortune go you and I. We just cannot do anything about it and we don't want to be reminded. Please never ask this again. I am barely getting by as it is.
