Question:

Back of Hand of Toddler is Red and Swollen?

I noticed yesterday that the back of my daughter's hand had a reddish, bruise-like mark, and today, I just noticed that the redness has spread to most of the back of her hand, and there is some swelling. Does anyone have an idea what the cause could be? She says that it doesn't hurt, and doesn't remember bumping her hand anywhere. It doesn't seem to be an infection, because I don't see any sign of a cut on the hand.

  1. take her to a doctor just incase.

  2. I would take her to the doc anytime there is something wrong with a child the body will do a few things

1 swell to send more blood to the area to help healing

2 run fever to try to kill any thing bad in that part

it could be a reaction to something like grass that the body is trying to heal if so i would give her some children antihistamine

  3. she might have gotton a bug bite or had an allergic reaction to a bite. make sure that the redness isn't streaky- thats bad. you can give her benadryl for the swelling and tyenol, but i would probably make a doctors appointment just in case. besides- its a holiday weekend, so if it does get worse, then you will have to pay for the emergancy room! lol...
