I was on a very bumpy interstate the other day and ever since then the back of my expedition is almost sitting on my tires. One person said the shocks came off and another told me to take the panel off the back of the truck on the inside and there should be a button that would make the truck go back up.Does anyone know whats wrong or what i can do?I cant even hardley drive it cuz it bounces so bad,Its a 98 expediton and i cant find the book that goes with it,Thanks

  1. Shocks have nothing to do with the height that the truck runs at. All they do is keep it from bouncing and provide a smoother ride. I'd say you probably broke the springs or they tore loose from the mounting location. Get under the truck and look at the springs.

  2. Not a problem with the shocks. If you have air ride suspension you might have popped a bag or broke an air line or the adjuster might have come loose or broke off . Have a shop look at it.

  3. ther is only a button if you have air ride suspenshion my best guess considering the age is replace the shocks.

  4. This can be a simple problem to fix or a very difficult one. Check under your car if the shocks came off, if they did just dolly teh car and put them back on, if they are brocken, invest in a new veichle cuz things are gonna start to break down, after all its a 10 year old car. just go ahead and check and fix the problem. its not so difficult.

  5. shocks if i where in your situation i would let a proffessional look at it, or a buddy who knows what hes doing

  6. Well if it's got air controlled shocks at rear then yes you should have a switch etc that allows you to set it.Sounds like the bad roads have caused the struts to go on you.

I'd try calling the dealership and asking the customer service rep about the suspension features it might or might not have.Plus I would be going to a reliable shop and having a free front end check done, also try to get at least 2 opinions.

Hope that helps and best of luck.By the way the springs are for the height and the shocks for absorbing the bumps and cushioning the ride. Plus if the strut had come loose or off you'd not even be able to drive it.

Try a test push down hard on the front end on right side you should notice it going up and down about 2 times at the most and then on left side, plus do the same to the rear end.Basically if the vehicle keeps bounching after you push it down then the shock inside the strut is faulty. Note althought the springs are normally for the height sometmes the shock causes the low height issue too.If going to replace the rear struts try to shop around for the parts and labour quotes, plus try bec it is a truck to buy heavy duty struts and if you plan on keeping the vehicle for sometime still get a lifetime warranty.

  7. Your shocks were probably badly worn just from the past 10 years.  The bad road could've actually broken the shaft on them and now you're bascially without shocks.  Just two pieces of debris hanging on each end of the axle.

You need new shocks.  Go see Pep Boys.

  8. It is NOT your shocks. I would look at the rear coils, it sounds like you either broke a coils spring or it came out of the coil buckets.
