Question:

Back of the cruise ship or side help????

We are booking on the mariner of the sea - Royal Caribbean a balcony room in the back of the ship My husband wants to switch to a side balcony, I want to keep the back. I know the back balconies are bigger. My husband wants a side balcony because he wants to be able to look straight down to see the water. On the back balcony the lower decks jut out so you can't see straight down. Also he thinks people in the above balcony can see into ours on the back because ours will jut out from the one above. Also will the back balconies be quieter as far as noise from other people since there are less balconies, are the side balconies "people noisy" I know we will hear more engine noise in the back, is this really loud?

If anyone has any input to help us settle this please help us out.

Thanks

  1. I wouldn't stay at the back of the ship - it would annoy me to know that the people above can see onto my balcony which means it isn't private. And like the other people say, you will feel the vibrations and more movement.  We always have a balcony cabin on the side of the ship.  On our last cruise, we were quite near to the elevator corridor but we didn't really notice the noise from people walking past.  You occasionally hear the people on the balcony next to you talking but nobody has parties out there so it's not loud!

  2. My brother was a First Officer for Royal Caribbean and he always said to book a cabin mid-ship and as high as you can. He said to never book a cabin at the back or the front  as you will feel the swell.

I just returned on Monday from a cruise on the Sapphire Princess and had a balcony cabin mid-ship on deck 11. It was perfect, you can't see into the lower persons balcony unless you really strain over the side and most people just sit there to read not stare at others - if they use it at all - there is so much to do you barely spend any time in your cabin.

When booking keep in mind where the entrances to the lifts are from the cabin hallways - you don't want to be opposite as you will get noise from people coming from the lifts and walking past the cabin.

  3. Stay away from the back of the ship. You will here some head-drumming vibrations coming from the back of the ship, which will wake you up at 5:30 a.m.
