Back packing europe ..........?

Question

what do people do when they back pack?

do they just go around and sight see? or is there more involved?

have any of you backpacked through europe? what did you do? what was the best thing - what was the worst?

I went around sight seeing and wine tasting. If a city was known for a having a big party I would make a point of stopping there during the party. I had a 3 month Eurail pass with unlimited travel that meant I could jump on and off trains at my whim.  The best thing for me was an early morning train from Munich to Innsbruck through the Alps it was a little scary  but the scenery was AMAZING.  The worst thing was losing my passport in Seville, then having to sleep outside the train station because I had missed the last train to Madrid.
