  1. There is just so much to see that the longer the time you have, the better it is.  Below are two sites which may offer some help.

  2. Depending on your home country I believe your visa is just a tourist card (and often included with your flight, check your airline for this information). If you are staying in Cuba on a budget I would suggest stay in a Cuban home. Check Havana-Rentals link at www.MyCubaFest.com for lists of B&B style casa particulares (rental houses) in Havana and around the island. Havana-Rentals may also be able to arrange a guide for your backpacking tours. One beautiful site that is a MUST SEE is the natural water falls of "El Nicho" near the city of Trinidad. To properly backpack around the country you may require atleast two weeks however a month would be best.

  3. Good for you! You will love it! These guys gave you very helpful information. (don't forget your updated passport -- a given).

Viazul is a good mode of transportatio (bus system).

    http://www.habanasol.com/cuba/buses.htm

The links below have more information on the bus and car travels...as well as trip suggestions and lists of hotels and casas particulares.

    Have an amazing time!
