  1. Never ridden a crotch rocket but sat on one. I don't like the position you're in. A cruiser is going to have a more comfortable position but my guess is you'll want a different seat? They can be hard on the butt during extended rides. Maybe get a spring loaded one and softer than stock? Mustang has some nice stuff with back support.

  2. I'm tempted to say to for it, you only live twice.

Most riders, I'd bet , have lower back pain at least sometimes...I do a lot...45 years riding , currently on my Virago...still riding, too stupid to quit...bet a good sales rep who is CONCERNED about putting you on a good scoot could suggest the right bike for you tho'

  3. I had that fear when I bought my current bike, a Daytona 675. I've had back problems since I was a teenager. A few times a year I will be layed up for a week.

The first couple of months my back was really sore. After a year on that bike I didn't have as many back problems though. After the second year I learned that if my back ever did bother me, riding would make it feel better.

It had to do with working my back out more than usual. My back is much stronger than it ever has been before. The one thing to keep in mind is that sitting on a bike in the showroom wont tell you anything. You're really taking a gamble. You may be lucky and things will turn out like they did for me. You may be unlucky and end up with something you can't ride very much. It'll take a few months for you to know if its working or not. Any chance you have a friend with an R6 that will let you ride it?

  4. Sportbikes put a lot of pressure on your back, I would think an R6 would make things worse. The suspension is going to be stiffer than a cruiser by design.

Best bet would be to hit a Yamaha dealership, grab a salesman and get him to let you mount up. See if you can sit on it for a few minutes. It'd be better still if it had a centerstand because you could tuck in, but even sitting on one for a minute or so will give you some idea.

  5. I have some slight back issues myself but my back is about the only thing that doesn't hurt when I ride.  Go figure.  Of course, mine doesn't sound as bad as yours.

The position looks like it would be uncomfortable but somehow it isn't.  I don't think they're any bumpier than any other bike.  My back doesn't get jolted at all.

I can't guarantee it'll work for you - is there some way you can test drive one?

I would think that a more standard position would be harder on your back.

  6. HELLO

DON'T TRY YOU MAY DROP IT ON YOUR SELF! SERIOUSLY WHAT WOULD YOU DO

WITH THE BAD BACK I SUSPECT VERY UNCOMFORTABLE

AT THE MOMENT I AM OFF DUE TO ARTHRITIS IN ONE HIP

BEST SUGGESTION A TRIKE YOU CAN FIT COMFORTABLE SEATS

  7. You need to experiment with a couple differnt kind of bikes ! especially if you have a bad back !

  8. First off, Id like to thank you for your service to this great country. You are a brave man. Sorry for your injuries.

Now, for the bad news. The R6 is a freakin torture rack, man. If you have a bum back, you wont ride very long without getting sore... Yes, sportbikes are pretty bumpy, because the suspension is stiff. You can always crank it down to its softest setting, but that makes it handle all wallowy in turns at a decent clip... I broke my collar bone and had to give up my race replica, because the pain was too much. I now ride a Kawasaki Z1000 - upright, but still fast as h**l.

What I recommend is that you RENT one first!! Look online - Sportbike rental companies are popping up all over. Rent one for the day and ride it as long as you can and SEE how you feel!!

    Thanks again!
