  1. Hello Brad, from one RN to another!

I just wanted to add that you may have also injured the muscle, not the spine.  In that case, you would need to see an MD/DO who would give you something like Flexeril to relax the muscle.  If I were you, I would start by alternating ice and heat on the area, 20 min each.  Avoid any adventitious movements.  Don't bend over, twist, lift, reach, stretch, etc.  I'm not sure how much tylenol or naproxen you've been taking, but I would alternate two tylenol with 1 aleve every 4 hours

  2. I feel your pain, as I recently had a low back problem w/ significant pain. The short answer to your question is that most likely a nerve (or spinal disc) has/had some new pressure on it, which causes the muscles surrounding this nerve to contract/spasm in order to protect the nerve from further injury. In my case I saw a chiropractor (for the 1st time) and have had a great response. It turns out I had some significant scoliosis (side ways curve) in my lower back that caused increased pressure on 2 of my spinal discs. By going to the chiropractor they are gently "straightening out" my lower back. They will most likely take some X-ray's that will hopefully show you what the problem is. I hope this helped a little, and good luck!

  3. i just wanna add one thing, apply "Bengay'locally at affected area.
