I'm a 5'4 outside hitter and ever since i started playing volleyball in my freshman year i've been having back pains on my middle-lower back. I always have to crack my back because it feels stiff... before games i have to stretch my back for 5 minutes or else i feel like i just tore a muscle. When i stand up for a prolonged time my back hurts even worse. What is it? What can i do to stop my back pain?

  1. You could be arching your back when oyu hit. Make sure you keep the ball in front of you. Or it might be the way that you're landing. Absorb the shock with your knees so its not so jarring.

  2. THis hasn't happened to me, or any one else who I know who plays vollyball.

I'm not sure, on your next doctor appointment ask the doctor about it.

Don't go to a chiropractor unless the doctor recommends it, or just says it's ok, because this can be very bad for kids or teens to do.

  3. Back PAIN can be caused by playing volleyball, normally when that happens you are doing something incorrectly. If you an outside hitter, there is an really good chance that you arch you back to much which can cause your back to hurt. Also when you are attacking a ball you should rotate to the ball starting with your hips not your back. if you do these little things you will be surprised how much better you back will feel.

  4. I don't like chiropractors, as most of them are too much business-minded. They would always try to sell you something that insurance would not cover.

I personally like to go to an acupuncturist for some treatment. I have several preferred in Sol. California so that I could always find one.

Make sure you also do your stretch/cool-down after your practice and games. Wrap yourself in a jacket or a towel during breaks or on the bench.

  5. No, an old injury or bad posture.

  6. Well, you can always go to a chiropractor because all of your back may simply out of alignment. Another thing you might want to try is Callanetics---an wonderful exercise program that lengthens your spine and stretches it out. You also need to tell yourself you'll stop having back aches. Mind over matter, y'know? Try also massaging your muscles, or some muscle relaxers to help you on your way.

  7. cuz u feel down the stairs?

  8. make sure you're stretching before you do anything. there's many different stretches to stretch your back well before you do any kind of work out. if you dont stretch you're definitely going to pull a muscle. i totally recommend you to talk to your athletic trainer and ask him/her what stretches would help for your back. and maybe get a massage because you probably have alot of knotes in your back. i've played volleyball for almost 10 years and stretching is the number one thing to do to prevent muscle pulls and injuries...you're 5'4 and your a outside hitter? wow u must have a great vertical...im 5'8 and i'm a setter. im a senior and just finished my  volleyball high school years...=( hoping to play college though. well i hope i helped you out a lil and i hope your back gets better...=)
