Question:

Back protector?

I (perhaps foolishly) took the advice of the people down at the local motorcycle accessories store and bought myself a Teknic Chicane Racing suit. Now I discover that the 'back protector' I was assured it had is just a piece of hard stuff stuck into the lining, and not a proper humpy one. Is there anything I can do to make my spine any safer, or should I just call it a bad joke and throw it away and get a new suit.

There's still a few weeks before the season starts, so I'm not seriously constrained.

  1. you need to buy a good spine protector..a good one is made by alpinestars and should fit in your leathers..they can be a little expensive but it is a lot cheaper than surgury or life in a wheelchair..

  2. I think you might be confusing the hump in the suit with a back protector. They are not related. The hump is mostly for aerodynamics and really shouldn't be relied on for protection. A back protector is used to stop your spine from hyperextending and to absorb some of the shock of an impact.

There are plenty of back protectors that can be bought seperately and worn under a suit for full protection.
