Back spasms keep Amar’e Stoudemire out of second half of Game 2: NBA Playoffs 2011
A back spasm forced the New York Knicks’ Amar'e Stoudemire to miss the entire second half of his side's 87-85 defeat to the Boston Celtics in the second game of their playoff series at TD Garden on Tuesday night. The victory gave the third-seeded Celtics
a 2-0 lead in the best-of-seven Eastern Conference quarter-final series.
Centre/power-forward, Stoudemire left the game in the second quarter. He was expected to return to the court but the intensity of the pain did not allow him to play the second half of the game. The 28-year-old stayed in the locker room and received proper
treatment.
Stoudemire said, "I couldn't hardly move. I was trying to play through it. Once I felt that sharp pain, I couldn't take it."
Prior to the injury, the National Basketball Association (NBA) All-Star scored just four points on 2-of-9 shooting, and five rebounds in the defeat. He played for 17 and a half minutes. Forward Shawne Williams replaced Stoudemire in the third quarter and
finished with six points and four rebounds.
Stoudemire’s absence is no doubt a huge loss for the sixth-seeded Knicks as the third game of the series is a very crucial one for them. The Celtics lead 2-0 in the best-of-seven conference quarter-final series.
However, considering the importance of the next game, Stoudemire is determined to take the court in New York on Friday. He said, "I should be ready for Game 3. We will see how it goes (Wednesday) and next day, but I'm pretty sure – I am hoping – I will be
ready Friday."
The Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the Nike Summer League is also the leading player for the Knicks and is averaging 28.0 points, 8.8 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 1.5 blocks per game during the 2010-11 post-season.
The Knicks are already were without five-time NBA All-Star, Chauncey Billups. He strained his left knee in the final minute of the opening game of the series and did not play Tuesday’s game. Billups is under day-to-day observation.
The absence of both key players could hurt the Knicks chances of bouncing back in the series.

Needless to say, having both of those players on board would be a key for New York to stay in this series.
