Question:

Back teeth in agony just like when I had bad wisdom teeth, but they've been taken out! What is it? :(

Had my wisdom tooth out over a month ago and had a dry socket there which is still a bit open. The molar tooth adjacent to where my wisdom tooth was, is too sore to chew with or to touch, as is the back molar on my top row of teeth above it on the same side. The wisdom tooth is gone so why am i still having this, it feels exactly like when I had wisdom teeth infections. I was on metronidazole for 10 days and it did nothing. Could it be that my jaw STILL hasn't healed in that area? It seems to be getting worse not better :( Thanks for any answers! x

  1. Yeah it could be bruising to your jaw or the dry socket causing residual pain in your upper gum area. I had terrible toothache in one of my upper wisdom teeth a few weeks ago and I felt as if my bottom teeth were killing me too and thats what the dentist told me. He was right. As soon as I got the wisdom tooth out all the pain was gone.

Whether its a bruise or dry socket I'd expect it to get better in time.

  2. It sounds like you have a dry socket.  You need to call your dentist and see if they will give you an antibiotic and or pack the area with medication, if this doesn't help they may have to go back in surgically and clean the bone out and suture it such.  when you have infection trapped in the bone it is called a cavitation or osteomyelitis (which is infected bone or sloughed-off dead bone caused by infection or reduced blood supply).  Maybe you should surf the web for dry socket and cavitation, you could find more information.  Hope this helped.

  3. Sounds like a TMJ episode.  Consult your dentiist.

  4. Maybe it's an abcess, go to your dentist, you may need anti-biotics :)
