Back to back wins would help Stacelita bring momentum in the Breeders’ Cup as she worked five furlongs ahead of her big race
It’s been smooth sailing this year for the 5-year-old Martin S. Schwartz owned mare, Stacelita, as she hasn’t finished off the board at all this season in 4 appearances. Her connections would be hoping that she goes on to continue the good run in the Breeders’
Cup.
The French bred Stacelita has adapted to the American racing culture, as she is coming off a back to back two race hot streak, both races were of the grade 1 status and she managed to win at different venues.
Trained by Chad Brown, Stacelita kicked off her American debut for her American owner in the Grade 1 United Nations Stakes at Monmouth Park on 2 July, 2011, under jockey J Bravo over at the distance of 1 3/8 miles on turf.
The experienced mare finished third, and was sent to Arlington Park for her next start in the Grade 1 Beverly D. Stakes on 13 August, 2011, under jockey Ramon Dominguez.
The pair downed some serious competition over at the distance of 1 3/16 miles with the winning time of 1 minute and 57.57 seconds. Dubawi Heights and River Jetez finished second and third, respectively.
Running most of her career over at a mile and a quarter, Stacelita was given the opportunity to run over her perfect distance, and show her new owners what exactly she is made of.
The Grade 1 Flower Bowl consisted of 1 ¼ miles and the race was held at Belmont Park on 1 October, 2011. Ramon Dominguez aboard Stacelita again showed the confidence the connections have on the jockey.
Ramon Dominguez didn’t prove them wrong as he kept Stacelita in stalking mode and was confident of her amazing turn of foot. Dominguez followed the script and it came out good for him as in the stretch Stacelita was let loose and onwards she destroyed the
main protagonists of the race.
Breeders’ Cup is right on the corner, and Stacelita is in top form. Her connections have entered her for the Grade 1 Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Turf and in preparation for the race the filly went five furlongs in 1 minute and 2 4/5 seconds on 27 October
at Belmont Park.
