Back-up shuttlers can take advantage while training with Lee Chong Wei, says coach Tey Seu Bock
Malaysia’s national coach, Tey Seu Bock said that the Men’s Singles back-up shuttlers have got the chance to train and enhance their skills while working with Lee Chong Wei, who is World Number One in the Men’s Singles category.
Malaysia’s Coaching and Training Committee, which works with the co-ordination of Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM), have changed the training schedule of shuttlers and now, back-up shuttlers will train with the elite squad.
The back-up players can take maximum advantage while training with Chong Wei, who is one of the best athletes in the entire history of the game. These back-up players will work as sparring partners with the top seed, but they can learn the art of hard work
and dedication while playing with a great player.
Seu Bock said, “They will be training with the World No 1 who is at his peak now. There is plenty to learn from Chong Wei while he is still at the top.”
The coach also mentioned the hard work and dedication that Chong Wei showed when he was a back-up shuttler at the age of 19. He appreciated the effort of the shuttler while playing with the elite squad and became the best in just three years.
The coach said, “Chong Wei rose in a similar manner when he was promoted to the senior squad when he was 19 and had the benefit of training with (Wong) Choong Hann, (Ong) Ewe Hock, (Lee) Tsuen Seng, James Chua and several others. He not only sparred with
the seniors but worked hard and within three years, had beaten them all.”
Both parties including Chong Wei and back-up shuttlers will take benefit from the combined training sessions as the World Number One will have more players to work with, whereas, the young shuttlers will learn highest skills of the game from him.
Among the back-up shuttlers who will train as sparring partners include Misbun Ramdan Misbun, Mohd Arif Abdul Latif and Goh Soon Huat. There will also be elite players in the training sessions including Chong Wei Feng, Liew Daren and Chan Kwong Beng.
