  1. You start by standing with your arms straight up and whichever leg you favor held about 8-10 inches off the ground. You simply arch your back to your hands push through your support leg using the raised foot to "walk" you over.  It's important you keep your arms "glued" to your ears.

Make sure you are strong enough first to do this trick. Can you do a kick over? Is your back flexible?

Also, are you sure you need a back walkover for cheer leading? After 15+ years of gymnastics and  cheering we never used back walkovers in cheer. Back handsprings yes. Maybe you are confusing the two?

I DO NOT suggest trying to teach yourself a back handspring. It's a good way to bust your elbows, break wrists, and land on your head. Have your cheer coaches teach and spot you to learn. Best of luck.

  2. Back walkovers take some practice.  Can you do a back dive? it's relatively the same concept.  Now is the perfect time to practice in the pool too.  Try back dives. Once you get the hang of that, move on to more substantial territory.  Like a mattress, trampoline, or mat.  Start standing on one foot, and point the other foot straight out in front of you.  Replicate your back dive and push with your supporting foot.  This should look like a back bend with one foot straight up in the air.  (the foot that was pointing earlier).  Then keep kicking until your pointing foot hits the ground. It should look smooth like a cartwheel.  Practice makes perfect. Check out Youtube for some examples as well.  Good Luck
