  1. There are many ways to solve backyard flooding.  The most expensive way would be to have a drainage system installed, but you're talking lots of money.   Another solution might be to install a water feature at the low point so that all the rainwater flows into the pond.

But to get at the point of growing a garden, I'd like to suggest Square Foot Gardening.  It's basically raised beds that are easy to maintain.  Just be sure to prepare the ground for better draining prior to setting up the actual raised bed.  I have a copy of Mel Bartholomew's book called Square Foot Gardening and would recommend you read a copy from the library or purchase one for your reference.

  2. You could try building raised beds with timbers and new soil that would get you up out of the bad drainage or you could dig a small swale to re-direct the flow of water.

  3. My mom plants her veggies in something called a Roottub.  She says it makes life so much easier for her and we have a problem with flooding also.  She has 5 of them side by side on our deck in the backyard.  She mainly grows parsnips, carrots and all sorts of turnips in them, but I guess you can grow anything in them.
