I was reading today on BBC that the British Foreign Office is warning of an increased terror risk to expats there. However the info is sketchy and it is not clear what this is based on, or why now all of a sudden.

I just wondered in there was more info known by locals as to the background.

Thanks in advance

  1. I totally agree with the giving answers. No background knowledge got released to the public so far.

Our husbands are on alert/standby (army and navy) and the entry to the UAE by road will be very difficult for some people now. Older cars from Yemen and Syria will get returned and entry will be denied denied.

Maybe this could be an indication?

Please read Kerala News just 6 hours ago: http://www.newkerala.com/one.php?action=...

Let's pray that the UAE continiues to be a peacefull and safe country.

    Peace.

  2. Terror alerts are issued by various governments, especially the British and US governments and their departments, in response to credible and tangible information garnered from various sources.

These sources can include local intelligence to radio/ Internet/ telephone and other chatter collected by intelligence and law enforcement agencies. The governments usually do not divulge the source of their information.

The Arabian Gulf states, including the UAE are suspected of having sleeper cells of Al Qaeda, who are believed to be waiting for a call or opportunity to strike. Also, there are some suspected sympathizers of these terror networks who reside in Arab countries and who might assist these sleeper cells.

The UAE has a very good law enforcement system but despite these, terrorists might have managed to sneak in explosives or weapons to carry out an attack. Intelligence reports gathered by the UK government might have indicated these and hence, the terror alert.

  3. No idea, but living here and reading this is not very comforting. I wish the government would release a statement to comfort the people or to at least tell us what is going on.

  4. I hope and pray that this terrorists would spare this country.

Nowadays countries having high incidents of bombings are Iraq, Pakistan, Iran, Afghanistan, Lebanon, Syria, Palestine, Jordan and other poor middle-east countries.  With no offend to these nationalities I am basing my comment to the News.  Everyday we hears killings courtesy of detonated bombs especially in Iraq.

But some Asian nations also has plagued by this acts. Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, India (also hit recently) and other radical populated people.

I am not saying that they're the ones who are responsible for this, what I'm saying is these countries have high incidents of known bombings.

No countries are not prone to this, even the Great America and U.K. experienced the ugly outcome produced by terrorism.

Condemned TERRORISM, let's act now to save this country and the whole mankind away from this inhumane acts !!!!
