Backing up blu-ray discs, more troublesome?

Is it possible to backup/copy blu-ray discs and if so, is it more difficult and troublesome than a regular DVD?

Yes it is possible to backup blu-ray discs, however you need to have a computer with a blu-ray drive that can read and write.  Not many computers have these drives and they are expensive.  The discs are also more expensive than regular dvds and it can take longer to complete the process. So it is more troublesome and expensive but not more difficult.
