  1. There's a good guide to increase your traffic here: http://traffic-tips-and-tricks.blogspot.... The tips described there are quite simple but very effective.Check out tip number 5, it talks about what you want to do.

And if you're willing to invest some time into it you should also consider reading the book "Guerrilla Marketing" by Jay Conrad Levinson, it tells you a lot of practical and effective ways to market your business for very little or no money at all.

    Hope this is useful.

  2. Backlinks simply mean other sites that are linking back to your site.

They may link to your site because

    - they find your site to be of interest to their audience (whether positive or negative)

    - your site has great, witty or unique information that they want to share to their readers

    - you requested them to link to your site or include your site in their list of recommended resources or related links, if they have any

    - you went to their forum and put a post there with a link to your site

    - you submitted a press release that they published

    - you submitted an article that they published

    - you bought a link from their site (e.g. you pay them to link to you)

The best links are those are that are freely given because they find something of value to your site. Your best way to get backlinks is to ensure that you have the BEST content in your niche.

Otherwise, learn to submit articles (and ask that the resource box that describes you and has a link to your site is kept live and unmodified). Also be sure that the site actually gives out a live link -- as others will put the site URL but will not make the hyperlink live; or like Yahoo Answers will make the link live but put a rel="nofollow" tag on every link which tells the search engines not to count that as a backlink to the site

Here is a comprehensive list of where to submit your articles http://answers.yahoo.com/question/;_ylt=...

Or submit press releases. While outfits charge as much as $650 per release, there are free press release submission places on the Web. Press releases allow you to (a) attract media attention; (b) get more back links to your website without sending each website an email request; and (c) get more visibility especially if your press release gets in Google News or Yahoo News.

  5. Backlinks (or back-links (UK)) are incoming links to a website or web page. In the search engine optimization (SEO) world, the number of backlinks is one indication of the popularity or importance of that website or page (though other measures, such as PageRank, are likely to be more important). Outside of SEO, the backlinks of a webpage may be of significant personal, cultural or semantic interest: they indicate who is paying attention to that page.

In basic link terminology, a backlink is any link received by a web node (web page, directory, website, or top level domain) from another web node (Björneborn and Ingwersen, 2004). Backlinks are also known as incoming links, inbound links, inlinks, and inward links.

  6. Backlinks are explained well in your other answers... where you can get quality backlinks are explained well in one of the answer... the next question I would ask and answer to take it to a results level quickly is HOW do I get those links...

    1) keep it natural so search engines don't think your spamming to get them and deindex you... so I would say 4 links a week is great...

    2) there are automatic linking products out there right now... be careful and only use them if YOU control the random nature of the linking...

    3) the best links are high quality links.. they get you the best traffic  which means it converts at a higher rate... google webmaster has lots of great info on quality guidelines.. they DO effect everything you do online so take the time for them...

    4) links from very relevant pages online are the most important and relevancy starts and stops really with your keywords... make sure you have excellent keyword research done using wordtracker AND google keyword tool...

    All the BEST...
