Question:

Backpack Italy?

I'm thinking of backpacking around Italy, or maybe just staying in the cities and staying in hostels...I'm really not sure.

I'd like to spend as little as possible...am thinking maybe 3-4 weeks, but that's not for sure.

Could you provide me with some average prices/night for hostels, or a site if I should backpack with a group, or any other info you think might help me??

  1. I´ve never been to Italy, but I recommend going to your local bookstore and picking up a copy of ^The Lonely Planet: Italy.^  The Lonely Planet provides a list of updated hostels and hotels ranging from budget to luxury.

You can also find cheap hostels online and make a reservation in advance.  Check out the reviews from other backpackers and then write down the three that appeal most to you.

good luck on your travels! cheers.

  2. ummm cheap hotels are the best probaly.

  3. Try these websites....it will be cheaper in some places than others which may dictate where and how long you stay...eg I found Florence and Venice pricey compared to other places.

Also if you are willing to share you will find it MUCH cheaper. I was not..apart from once....but I personally found it cheaper to go to a cheap hotel than getting a private single room in a hostel...

some days will be cheaper than others and also things like expos/conferences can put pressure on accommoidation ( as I found to my peril in Bologna!!!)..Soem websites might have specials as well so its worth looking around and monitoring prices for a while if you have the time.
