Question:

Backpack patches/badges...how to sew on??

How do you sew country badges onto your backpack without breaking the seal or irreparably damaging the backpack? I can't think of a good way except like maybe a silicon spray on the inside to reseal, but I don't know if it would work??

THANKS! 10 points for best answer!

  1. Ah, after you're done sewing, reseal with something like SeamGrip, if you're dealing with urethane coatings, and Sil-something for silicone coatings.  McNett makes both products... sorry I don't remember the silicone based sealer's complete name.

Look for them in most decent "outdoors stores" like REI or Cabelas or similar, or in fabric stores that sell coated fabrics.

Check out the various resources at http://www.specialtyoutdoors.com for more sources.

  2. Since I've never attempted it, I'm not sure. I am looking at my backpack right now, so a couple of suggestions come to mind. Depending on the size of the patches/badges, what about putting them on the straps? Also, mine has two pouches that have leather above the zipper; it might be possible to sew a couple there. Since I'm pretty sure we don't have the same kind of backpack, these suggestions are really just meant to help give you some ideas.

    Best of luck.
