Backpacking Belize?

I will be heading to Belize in about a month and was looking for suggestions of places to go, see, and stay. Nothing too pricey. Maybe with a nice beach to relax on.

Thanks

  1. My husband served six months in Belize whilst in the army. He

says the south of the country is best for tourists. Before you go,

make sure your inoculations are up to date and that you take the

correct medication with you. DO NOT go around by yourself for

safety reasons. Stay out of the jungle unless you have a competent guide. Enjoy yourself but be careful.

  2. In Belize City go and stay at the Mopan Residential, Scottish man and Belizian wife, they know all the spots and will give you an update.

Go to Ambergris Kay at San Pedro up north, fly for pennies on Maya airlines(eight seaters).

Go south to Punta Gorda, nice place to just kick back!

Go see incredible Maya ruins at Altun Ha, Benke Viejo and some other new sites now excavated.

WATCH OUT FOR PEOPLE INVITING YOU TO SHARE A 'JOINT' WITH THEM.  It is a scam, somebody acting like police will show up and threaten to take you in. . . Okay they want you to pay them off.

In Belize City, only carry on you the amount of $$$ you will need for that day, if anybody demand it give it to them.

In Santa Elena at the border,  I can still hear the lady yelling after me as I was boarding the bus,'Watch out in Belize City. . .!
