Question:

Backpacking advice?

I really want to go backpacking around the world, just go wherever I want when I feel like it. Has any of you done this? Any advice you have will be apreciated, eg. must-see places, or places not to go to. At the moment I'm just trying to get as much information about as many places as possible, to decide where I want to start.

  1. good times.

unless youre a millionaire go somewhere that's not too expensive.

Nepal is fantastic, trekking and hiking around is a blast. Check out what's going on over there atm...usually a pretty safe place.

India and Pakistan are geat places to travel to....too many places to see for one trip.

If you're doing the Europe thing, consider a rail pass. Czech

Republic's a beautiful country as is Poland.

So many places to see - Thailand (cool beaches, great food, many tourists) and other sth east asian countries like Vietnam and Laos are very tourist friendly.

    Have fun

  2. totally fun!  do it!

Pros: It's the best to not lock in accomodation because if you don't like  a city you can just leave! or if you like it, then you can stay.

Cons: trying to find somewhere to eat and sleep when it's dark and you can't find anywhere!

If you do the backpacker thing around europe - try and buy a pox car or hire one becuase you don't want to be with all the other backpackers - if you wan't to spend time with people from the same country as you you may as well stay in it.  Drive to smaller towns, so you get the real feel for things.

Trekking in Nepal is also an excellent experience.

  3. I did it and loved it. Make sure that you dont plan too much, be spontaneous. Some of the best experiences are not planned. Also when full my backpack weighed 22kg!! i am a girl and it killed me to carry that thing but I thought I needed everything I took. So a month before you pack write down for 2 weeks everything you wear, for example you own 10 tshirts but only wear your 4 faves, then just pack those things would usually use and leave the rest at home. I did US which was good esp. the southern states, europe (amsterdam is bpackers mecca!) and china on the way home. Start conversations with locals, walk the opposite way to tourists, take care or your feet and back and dont buy souvenirs - just more to carry. Good luck!
