  1. 3 grand should get you through

5 if in with the party crowd

    thats without work

  2. the only way you will be permitted to work is on a working holiday visa

this visa is for up to 12 months

    http://www.immi.gov.au/visitors/index.ht...

  3. You won't be able to work legally on a Visitor visa. The penalties for employers employing illegals are very high and the only ones who are prepared to take a chance are the ones who will exploit you and rip you off.

If you want to work, apply (now) for a working holiday visa. You're from the UK, so you shouldn't have too much trouble getting one.

Go to: http://www.immi.gov.au/visitors/index.ht... for all info.

The amount of money you'll need will depend on how you want to live, but as a guide, backpacker accomodation will cost you between $23 and $29 per night for shared dorm accomodation. Allow around $350-400 per week + fares, tours and special entertainment.

  4. i run a backpackers in South Australia, it is a working hostel, you would need to have a working visa before you could work, you would also have to apply for an australian bank account and a tax file number as you would have to pay tax, but this can be claimed back when you leave australia. i have a page on facebook under Nomads_On_Murray. if you want any info just ask
