Why would a bacterial population living in an unrestricted environment grow much faster than an eagle population?

  1. The generation time of most bacteria is about 30 minutes while the eagle is about 2 years. That means in the time it takes eagles to reproduce once, bacteria have done so 35,000 times.


  2. 1) because of generation time...an eagle takes weeks to months to make a few new chicks..bacteria can do it in minutes to hours

    2) time to adulthood to reproduce....the chicks then need to grow old enough to have chicks of their own

    3) eagles need to find mates...bacteria make new clones of themselves (sexual vs asexual reproduction.
