Bad ACT Score?

I just got my ACT scores, and this is what I got: English-28, Math-19, Reading-33, Science-21. Composite:25. I feel dumb. I want to major in English, but I don't feel like I did well enough to get into Oberlin or Sarah Lawrence, where I want to go. Do I still have a chance? Or should I retake?

  1. a 25 will not get you into Oberlin or sarah lawrence, but as these guys say, just take practice tests and retake it. you will do much better. all it takes for tests like these is knowing the test, not knowing the subject.

  2. The highest you can get in each of the subscores is a 30.

And on the composite is a 36.

You did good though for your first try.

The Offically ACT test book really helps bring up your score.

I got a 21 on my first test. I needed a 28 for my scolarship, so I retested. I studied and took some practice tests and brought up my score to a 27. Retesting WILL bring up your score, but only if you put in the effort.

    Hope that helps :-]

  3. No, each of the subscores is also out of a 36.

I know plenty of people who did much worse, but if you feel that you need to do better/want to do better before applying then retake it.  I started out at a 29, and retook it twice to get a 32 and a 34, and I really didn't study much in between, just taking it the second time and being used to the routine makes it easier.
