I'm in 7th Grade and am trying out for the volleyball team. I'm really good and play with my friends, but all my friends are really bad at volleyball. I'm always on their team, and want to go on a better team, but I dont want to hurt their feelings. I'm afriad if I don't go on another team, I wont get any better. Its not fun if I cant play, even with my friends. Advice?

  1. if you see that some of your friends are lacking skill, try to encourage them by giving them advice on the areas that they need help on. improving takes time. however, in the mean time, i would suggest that, despite them being your friends, you pursue a higher level of volleyball because it is true that you will not get better if you don't play against higher competition. as far as hurting their feelings, your friends should already be aware of the gap in skill level so they should understand.

  2. listen to me, if your really that good your friends are just holding you back my mom tells met his all the time, get on a good team! im serious your crushing your future your new volleyball team you will make new friends, who actually have a future and no im not saying dump your friends just get on a new team, just tell them you want to try something new best of luck and dont let your friends hold you back

  3. I play too. Thats how it was with me. It is still fun without your best friends. Its okay, even if the other girls on the good team hate you, its okay. Just concentrate on the game, do things to make it fun. Sometimes peoples feelings get hurt, but if they are your true friend then they will understand that you need to do whats best for you sometimes. Don't let them hold you back, you have talent.

  4. My friends are the same way. You should just call them over to your house and play a game of volley ball. That way you could give them some pointers and they could get better and you might learn something and get better as well.

  5. You have to decide what is more important to you in the long run, and what your goal is. Is it more important to have fun, or to make something out of playing volleyball?

If you really want to pursue volleyball, you need to be on a good team. If your friends care about you, they will understand- plus it's fun if you get to play their team. If you don't want to continue volleyball more than just the high school team, you should probably stay on a team with your friends.
