Question:

Bad blood between Detroit and Pittsburgh?

As a Pens fan, I know we have nothing to be ashamed of. For such a young team, we played very strong throughout the playoffs. And I am glad the Wings, of all teams, beat us. They have tremendous talent and are very deserving of the Stanley Cup this year. So Congratulations to Detroit.

Although, I sign on to YA! tonight and see a few Wings fans pretending there is bad blood between our two cities, Pittsburgh and Detroit. Since when? I have both friends and relatives in Detroit, and we generally have respect for each other's sports teams. The kind of jousting we saw this series happens all the time between teams. And as usual, it looked like both teams walked away with good spirits and respect for each other.

So where did this idea come from that there is some kind of rivalry or bad blood between our two cities? Are these guys just newbies to trash talking, or sports in general? I know we had a great time winning the Super Bowl in Detroit a few years ago, especially Jerome Bettis.

  1. No there won't be bad blood between the two teams.  I am a penguins fan who stayed until the very end.  I saw the red wings celebrating with the cup, the conn smythe ceremony.  So I congratulated the red wing fans and the pens have nothing to feel bad about.

  2. I don't think we have bad blood with each other!  I think the Wings only really have bad blood with the Avs.  And that's kinda fading away with new players!

  3. I don't think there is any bad blood between the two cities u guys played great. I couldn't belive how hard u tried to score in game 4 and 5 in the closing moments. I think each team played with respect for each other. There was no dissing of other players when they were interviewed. It was a good fougt series. Go wings!

  4. Just because it was a really good series, therefore there was bad blood...Also just in general there is abd blood between the two teams in the Stanley Cup Final.

  5. i definatly agree with you. the penguins have grown so much in only 2 years. im soo proud of them. the red wings have always been a great team..when i first got into hockey when i was about 12 (2002) last time they won the cup before tonight but anyways the red wings are going to be a good team for years to come. the penguins will win the stanley cup soon. i also know people that are from detroit & pittsburgh. i have one friend who has family in detroit & another friend who has family in pittsburgh. luckily my two friends family's that live in detroit & pittsburgh dont know each other. thats about it for me. once again just thought i'd say congrats to the wings for winning the cup, they really did deserve this.

  6. There is no bad blood I don't think.  The Pens were a good team and fought hard till the end.  They never gave up and thats something to be proud of too.

There is nothing really to hold a grudge about.

  7. your team played awesome...i've never seen someone try to score as hard as they did during the final seconds of the game...they have a lot of young talent and will be back next year...good thing no players were being sore winners or losers

  8. I'd think most of them are people who made accounts when the buzzer went off. This is why forced institutionalization may not be a bad thing.

  9. This was without a doubt the most exciting finals in any sport in the past decade.  I cannot remember the last time a final was so exciting.  Everyone said it would go 7 games and then the Wings looked like they were going to bring out a broom.  And it went 6 games.  Makes one wonder what would have happened if it started in Pittsburgh.  I don't think there is any bad blood between us.  Simply because we don't play enough.  Half of my family lives by Pittsburgh I love the Steelers (mainly because Detroit doesnt have a football team) and my son decided to become a pens fan, for some reason I cannot understand.  For me I am upset that the Igloo  totally ignored the fact that the Hockey season was over, and didn't play the one song that every player wants to hear at the end of the season.  It looked like it was just another game coming to an end.  Some people are calling me a sore winner  or a whinner.  But I think they are missing the point I am trying to make.  The NHL is trying to gain popularity and become a major sport.  So when the best series, the most exciting ending, the most nail biting ending since Kerry Struds incrediable landing in the Olympics, happens.  The Igloo acts like it was just another game.  THANKS FOR THE LET DOWN.

  10. People like drama and "bad blood"...so they'll create it with anything, including oxygen.

Or they may just miss the cutthroat days of the Wings and Avs and are just looking for another team to stir up drama with.  Who knows.  Immaturity shines at its finest sometimes, and usually makes its appearance in those questions that you saw.

  11. Rivalries can form through the Finals, especially if the Finals is a hard-hitting, tough matchup.

There may be some hostility if these two teams meet next year, but overall, I think there will be no bad blood. Pittsburgh is gonna focus on the Atlantic Division rivalries, more than a rivalry between them and a team they MIGHT play once a year.

  12. The Pens suck. You guys will NEVER win the Cup, and that is a guarantee.

  13. There isn't bad blood between the two cities. Actually I half-way cheer for the Tigers because I cheer for any team Leyland is coaching. Too bad the Pirates blew it when the man showed interest in coaching again and went and got Jim Tracy. Just shows why they were never going to have success under their old ownership. Anyway back to hockey. Too much respect for the teams between the fans and players for there to be bad blood coming up from just the series.

  14. Red Wings are the only Michigan team I have respect for. Other than that, hate the Pistons with a passion, Lions.... lol, Tigers... hate their guts, I'm a fan of Penn State, so hate both Michigan and Michigan State for college.

Red Wings proved they were the better team of the series, Penguin fans have nothing to be ashamed about. We played hard, we fought it out til the clock hit 00:00.(Literally, Hossa almost tied the game with 1 second left).

And good point about the Steelers winning the Superbowl.  Then again.... Detroit fans can't cheer for the Lions. Just look at their record. Anyway, there shouldn't be any bad blood. If the Players don't have bad blood, neither shall the fans.

  15. No bad blood at all.  I think Orpik and Franzen won't get together for BBQ this summer but I don't even see that antagonism carrying over to next year.  I root for the Penguins whenever the wings aren't on.  You can't help but watch a great young team with a lot of heart.

    Great series.

  16. Honestly...there is no bad blood here.  Both teams are a great team...I'm sad the Pens didn't win...but Detroit played to win.  I have respect for all the REAL Wings and Pens fans...BWers on the other hand I do not.

You're right...we have nothing to be ashamed of...everyone said it was going to be a sweep...and it wasn't.

Gratz to both on a great season...Can't wait til next year!!

  17. I went to both cities...no bad blood at all.

  18. No bad blood in my point of view between the Wings and Penns.but there is between th Av's and Detroit as those of us who watched as Claude Lemieux deliberately broke Drapers jaw and it had to be wired and caught part of his obital socket too. (eye) glad Claude is gone but it is never forgotten. He was a huge bully when there was need for what happened.
