Bad days for Colin Montgomerie and Miguel Angel Jimenez
Colin Montgomerie and Miguel Angel Jimenez missed the cut at the Spanish Open, with fans pointing out that the two stars are facing their worst times in Spain.
Both the players are 48 years old and having difficulty scoring well in the current year. They performed poorly and missed the cut at the Real Club de Golf de Sevilla in Seville, Spain.
The Scottish Montgomerie started the first round late on Thursday. He only shot two birdies, whereas carded six bogeys till the end of the day.
Similarly, he continued his mediocre performance on Friday, as he shot five bogeys and a double-bogey in the second round.
He was unable to move further, as he scored a 4-over 76 and 5-over 77 in the first and second round respectively.
Gregory Bourdy was the leader after the second round. He scored enormously and reached the top of the leaderboard. He scored eight birdies and only two bogeys throughout the second round.
"I'm very happy about this round, particularly in these conditions," said Bourdy on Friday "Yesterday one over was not so bad in that wind, but today I played really well, I felt comfortable and very solid, very consistent and I also made some important
putts, so I'll try to keep going like this".
The Spaniard Jimenez also faced trouble scoring at the Spanish Open. He shot a 3-over 75 on Thursday, and made three bogeys and a double-bogey as well. He only scored two birdies and was unable to stand among the top-25 players.
In the second round, he shot seven bogeys and a double-bogey. He shot just one birdie, on the 16th hole, and tumbled to a lower position on the leaderboard.
He missed the cut on Friday, for scoring an 8-over 80 and returned home. He could not live up to the expectations of many Spanish fans, and loosing the tournament on the home course put a severe dent in his reputation.
Both are senior golfers of their times. They both have recorded many tremendous victories at the European Tour since turning professional.
Analysts said that the superstars have ample chances to be impressive in the upcoming European Tour events. They added that the only thing that will help the two players is rigorous practise, which will bring much-needed improvements in their swing and putting.
