hi I had my bottom right wisdom tooth out 5 days ago, i have had the usual ache and there is a really bad taste coming from there which gets better each day,

one symptom i have is since monday is a really bad headache that goes entirely down the right side of my face even my shoulder feels weak.

under my jaw feels slightly swollen and i have slight earache, is this usual 5 days following an extraction and will it gradually just get better.

I really was not expecting this amount of time recovering. ♥

  1. You might have a dry socket. I am an oral surgeon and the symptoms you are describing sound just like a dry socket where the blood clot is pulled out of the socket and bone is exposed thus no healiing taking place. You could try going back to your dentist because there are some medicines to pack in the socket to make it feel better.

  2. While I haven't had my wisdom teeth out (yet), I know from experience that dental surgery usually takes about a week for recovery.  There will be a little swelling, and there are a number of reasons for this.  One is because you were probably injected with novicane, am I right?  That causes swelling in itself, and it takes a while for that to go down.  Another reason could be because of your body's reaction to the stitches in your gums.  They don't belong there, at least that's what yout body thinks.  A third reason could be that usually when wisdom teeth are pulled out, there's a slight chance that it could have pulled part of your nerve out, and numbed that area for a little while.  Don't worry.  The chance of that being permanent is less than 1%.  It should go away.  Just keep it on ice and give it some time.
