Bad idea to have baby in college?

Question

My husband and I really want to have a baby. We are both in college though. We make enough money to support ourselves and extra on the side. My college offers really wonderful child care, which would be free to me as a student. I was thinking of taking online classes (just one or two) during the semester the baby would be born, as long as the professors would allow some leeway regarding the time after the birth. This way I wouldn't get behind. I would still graduate on time since I am ahead in credits. Our major positive points include:

1. When else will you be able to have free child care?

2. Having one now would allow us to go into our careers after graduation, without me having to take time off to have the baby.

Negative: the issue of having enough time for school work

I had my daughter when my partner was beginning 3rd year university (out of 5 years)  and it was difficult for him to study even though I was staying home looking after her while he went to uni, he finished last year and now I am doing uni (online as we live in the desert) and our daughter is pretty independant now, but it's still hard, and that's with him home every afternoon and all weekend taking care of her. I'm also pregnant and I find studying really tiring. I dunno, it's totally possible to do, but dont expect to maintain high standards with both of you trying to squeeze in study with a huge distraction like a bubba. Good luck whatever your decision

You're in a committed relationship.

You have the financial support.

You can still finish on time.

Your school has free child care.

I don't see why not.

Well if you're in a committed relationship and have a place to live and can financially support yourselves and a baby and can deal with the work then why not?

I think if you are both ready then why wait? The only thing that concerns me is you are thinking it's a good idea to have a baby because of free child care. Although it's great that you have that benefit, it doesn't seem to be too great of a reason to have a child. But from everything else I read..it sounds like you are ready and the time is right!!

have a baby now.  i think the time is right -- imagine almost everything is in your favor.
