  1. Run a Disk Scan

Save  that 60g hard drive.. It  may not be very big  but  it's  what you  have.. Why spend  any money  if you don't have to ?

Start menu > My Computer > right click  on C drive> go to Properties > click on >.Tools Tab. then Click> Check Disk for Errors  A  window will pop up  click both fix  options.. and click OK.. Another window will pop  up  and tell you  to schedule  the scan at the next boot up.. click  OK  and then shut down  and reboot... This will start  the scan.. Let  it run.. It will take  a while.. Then  the computer will boot itself back  up.  This will fix  any corrupt sectors  on the hard drive.

    good luck

  2. I would run Check Disk.

    In xp:

Go to My Computer, right click on the hard drive and select properties, click the tools tab, under Error Checking click "Check Now..." Then check the two boxes.

If its your main drive (C:) it will ask if it should run on start up, say yes.

  3. use tuneup utilities 2008

  4. Trust me it's not worth the effort to do a scan on a disk that old, the damage is surely physical. Buy a new one, reinstall and transfer all your data while you still can
