Hello, I have heard several disadvantages by learning tagalog through rosetta stone rather than learning it through other sources. One thing i have heard is that learning tagalog through rosetta stone can sometimes be inaccurate or something similar but i never really found out why. So would anyone point out some of the disadvantages of learning tagalog through rosetta stone?

  1. i have a friend who is caucasian.  he studied tagalog through rosetta stone. he said he didn't learn much -- though he became familiar with words.

he only learned when he started conversing in tagalog with his wife.  i suggest you enrol in a class.  that way, you know if you're making a mistake or not.

  2. The way adults learn is different from the way children learn a language so Rosetta Stone may not be the best option to learn Tagalog.

Visit the country. Eat, Live, and Communicate like the locals that speak the language.

  3. i heard  Rosetta Stone's okay. but let me tell you this: in learning another language, all you need to learn are the basics -- basic vocabulary, basic sentence construction, basic conversation phrases, etc. tried and tested: practice speaking the language with a native speaker... conversation manner. and if they comment on your Tagalog, treat these comments as constructive criticism.

i can teach you if you want. lol :p

    good luck ^_^

  4. I have trialed Rosetta Stone and had participated in their audio data collection study in the past. It is great for learning the basics if you can commit at least half an hour daily learning the language. The Tagalog words and sentences in the software are actually accurate and formal. The voice in the software is from a native Tagalog speaker with a very clear pronunciation and good diction.

The only downside I can think is that interacting with software in learning a language can be boring sometimes since the lessons are quite repetitive.

In my experience, the best way to learn a language so far is through immersion, visiting the country and dealing with locals who speak the language.
