Bad time arrives for Matt Kuchar in the form of bee stings
When it comes to injuries, it is basically the timing of the injury that matters. Most of them are bad, but others are worse even in the most convenient circumstances.
It is the timing that makes the difference. Prominent American golfer and a key contender for Northern Trust Open Matt Kuchar is currently confronted with similar circumstances.
With just two shots behind the leading position currently in possession of Phil Mickelson, Kuchar experienced a bee sting when he was teeing it off on sixth green.
He had already made way into the second round of the event with a stable position. He had a score of 69.
The score allowed him to secure his place for the third place at Pacific Palisades.
The 33-year-old golfer felt a momentary pinch just about the time when he was making it for the shot.
"I haven't been stung in probably 20 years," said Kuchar. "I had stopped being scared of bees as a matter of fact. The thing got me and it was really painful".
The effect of the string was immediate. Kuchar, who was making it for the sixth hole, missed the short birdie putt, missing the opportunity of scoring on that particular spot.
Apart from Kuchar, who seems to be threatening the position Mickelson has in the championship, another prime contender is Pat Perez.
With the help of his score of 65, he is moving forwards in a rather stealthily manner to grab the trophy.
Perez regards the remarkable improvement in his performance as his strategy of making modifications in the putting style he used to execute formerly.
According to the rising American golfer, he has had long consultations on this issue with Tommy Armour III who convinced him that it is better for him to modify the way and style of putting.
"Changing to the belly putter has changed everything for me." He further said that the improvement materialised for him, as he has been able to perform exceptionally well in the last couple of tournaments that he has participated in.
Northern Trust has entered a completely new phase of excitement, with champions facing a threat of losing their winning streak and the underdogs all set to creating new records.
