Bad weather sky tv (NO SIGNAL )?

Question

I live in york and its chucking it down most of my channels show no signal but a few still work uk gold +1 fx and bbc3 that seems to be it why can some work but not all

Don't know why it happens with some channels and not others but it is a pain in the proverbial.  I live on the north west coast on an exposed hill and my house gets battered by the wind and each time my sky goes off.  You would think with the profits they make they woul be able to invent a system that isn't affected every time we get wind or rain - especially when charging such high subscription fees!

i dont know what im talking about but this is what i think

chucking it down as you say it, prob means raining alot or hailing am i right,  if you got sky, you prob have a dish or something attached to your house, this rain or hail might be interfering as it hits the dish

dunno if you need a dish thing for sky lol dunno anything about this subject

there is nothing you can do,apart from making sure your dish is properly alighned. you only have a couple of degrees to play with. the sky system works on radar frequencies and so that is the reason the dish must have a clear line of sight to the sky. any trees etc and you dont get a signal. the rain drops affect this if they are really chucking it down its like a solid wall of water in the way. also lightning can really s***w the signal.

Sky uses a QAM which is absolutely crowded and so many many channels ride on one MUX band. The practical upshot is that if one MUX experiences interference it takes all the channels on it with it.

Water can reflect RF signals if they're ultra short but it's more likely that there's some ionisation in the air. There's not a lot that can be done about this.
