Badminton Asia Championships 2012: Nguyen Tien Minh ousts H.S Prannoy in Men’s Singles first round
Vietnam’s Nguyen Tien Minh finds a good start as he overpowered India’s upcoming player H.S Prannoy in Men’s Singles first round at the Badminton Asia Championship 2012 on Tuesday, April 17, in China.
The World Number 10 Tien Minh, who is seeded at number seven in the main draw of Asia Championships, played remarkable badminton in his opening fight and advanced into the second round.
While playing against Prannoy, Tien Minh was in complete control in the opening set and took it easily. However, he had to work extra hard to overpower the Indian in the second game and won it with a narrow margin.
The higher ranked Vietnamese ended this first-round clash by taking just 39 minutes in the court.
In the opening set, Tien Minh was in his prime form as he played top quality game while remaining fully focused in the set and also managed an early lead.
On the other hand, Prannoy played well particularly in the second game but failed to take any game as his opponent took over the control and eventually won the battle in 39 minutes.
In the opening set, Tien Minh was everywhere in the court as he did not spare even a single chance for Prannoy to take charge of the game. He grabbed a superb lead in the starting points.
Prannoy could not put up resistance in opening points of first set as he failed to match the speed of his opponent.
Until the mid-game break, Tien Minh was miles ahead of his Indian opponent by reaching at 11-4.
After the break, Tien Minh continued playing tremendous badminton without sparing any chance for his opponent to fight back in the game and managed to win the set with a one-sided score of 21-6.
In the second game, Prannoy showed his craft when he matched the speed of his opponent and remained equal until the end of opening half.
Both men progressed well by playing at their best in the concluding half of second game.
The score reached at 20-20 when Tien Minh controlled the pace and score two points in a row to bag the set by a 22-20 score on the board.
