Badminton Asia Championships: Dionysius Hayom Rumbaka thrashes Suppanyu Avihingsanon in second round
Indonesia’s upcoming player Dionysius Hayom Rumbaka showed a wonderful performance as he defeated Thailand’s Suppanyu Avihingsanon in Men’s Singles second round of the Badminton Asia Championships 2012 on Wednesday, April 18, in China.
The World Number 23 Rumbaka, who is 13th seed in Asia Championships, proved his elite skills by playing aggressive badminton against Suppanyu and won the contest in straight sets in a convincing fashion.
Rumbaka was everywhere in the court as he played with precision and ousted his opponent in 45 minutes without dropping any game in the contest.
On the other hand, Suppanyu played well in both sets but failed to maintain his positive run in the concluding phases of both games and lost the encounter with a reasonable margin.
The higher ranked Rumbaka showed his calmness in the opening points as he did not execute hasty shots and remained positive in the court.
In the meanwhile, Suppanyu played with aggression to overpower his higher ranked Indonesian rival but failed to build lead and the score reached at 10-10.
Until the mid-game interval, Rumbaka managed to take a small lead by reaching at 11-10.
After the break, the Indonesian geared up his speed and also injected more power in his strokes which helped him to take a comfortable lead.
Rumbaka remained positive and played safe game in the ending points of first set and managed to win it with a good margin of 21-16.
In the second game, both shuttler started to play attacking badminton from opening rallies and reached at 2-2.
At this stage, Rumbaka stunned his lower ranked rival by playing tremendous badminton and took 9 consecutive points to set up an 11-2 lead until the break.
After the interval, Avihingsanon played better game and drew near to his Indonesian challenger by reaching at 10-14.
However, Rumbaka maintained his upper hand in the game by remaining focused. He did not commit any mistake at the ending phase of second set and easily won it with a 21-16 score on the board.
Rumbaka won this fight in straight sets by taking 45 minutes with a good margin of 21-16 and 21-16.
