Badminton Asia Championships: Disappointment for Meiliana Jauhari, Greysia Polii in first round
The opening day of main draws in Badminton Asia Championships was certainly a gloomy day for top notch female couple Meiliana Jauhari-Greysia Polii as they faced a woeful exit from the first round on April 18, 2012.
Though, Indonesian ladies put a really good show in an epic 65-minute tussle but they could not stop their opponents Jung Kyung Eun-Kim Ha Na from sealing the victory after final scores of 11-21, 21-19 and 17-21.
Meiliana-Greysia, currently placed at the ninth spot in world rankings, proved lazy bones in opening set of the match when they could not match the game speed of their rivals.
The Korean campaigners pushed them into dark with their lustrous performance and earned few quick points with their masterly crafted strokes.
Their coordination was superb when they gained authoritative position in first half of the game with 11-5 total on the scoreboard.
Kyung Eun and Kim Ha proved their technical and tactical supremacy over their opponents in last part of opening game and bagged the first match point with a distinctive margin of 21-11.
However, the second set was not a dead contest like the previous one as both teams remained close to each other until game point situation.
Indonesia had a slight edge of one point before the interval as scoreboard was showing 11-10.
After mid-game break Doubles experts Meiliana and Greysia kept the bird in their control for some time and jumped to 15 points but their challengers caught them and levelled the score.
Both teams remained toe-to-toe until game point situation but the Indonesian ladies scored two consecutive points and ended second set with 21-19 score in their favour.
The final set started with a quick 8-5 lead of World Number 10 duo Kyung Eun-Kim Ha but their opponents added three consecutive points in their total to level the score.
Before one-minute break they stood close with 11-10 scores but after the interval the Korean charge was a feast for the eyes as they first raised their lead to 15-11 and when they felt their rival duo is narrowing the gap, they build up speed to reach the
climax with 21-17 score on the board.
This loss was last nail in the coffin and Meiliana-Greysia had to catch an early flight to home.
