Badminton Asia Championships: Du Pengyu beats Tanongsak Saensomboonsuk in Men’s Singles round-of-16
China’s emerging player Du Pengyu showed his remarkable skills in the Men’s Singles round-of-16 when he defeated Thailand’s Tanongsak Saensomboonsuk at the Badminton Asia Championships 2012 on Thursday, April 19, in China.
Pengyu, who is World Number 11 and the fifth seed in Men’s Singles main draw of the event, had to dig deep into his arsenal to overpower his spirited Thai opponent in a thrilling three-set encounter.
The higher ranked Chinese did not find a good start and lost the opening set. However, he fought back in the game and remained successful in taking the following games and won the contest in 61 minutes.
On the other hand, Tanongsak played superb game in the opening set and bagged it with a decent score. However, he lost his focus in the following sets and also lost the event in three games.
In the opening set, both men played remarkable badminton by showing a wonderful aggression. They played with precision and remained close in the game until the 60 second break.
After the interval, Pengyu played negative strokes and remained struggling against his lower ranked rival. He could not play positive game and lost the opening set with a margin of 18-21.
Stung by the loss of opening set, Pengyu made a powerful come back in the second set as he played with extreme aggression and managed an incredible lead until the one-minute interval.
After the break, the lower ranked Thai shuttler could not reduce the deficit as his Chinese opponent was in full control.
Pengyu remained successful in levelling the match by winning the second game with a stunning 21-6 score on the board.
In the deciding game, Pengyu was the first who took an early lead by playing to his maximum potential and did not spare even a single chance for Tanongsak to find a good rhythm.
Until the end of opening half, Pengyu was in commanding position in the game.
After the break, Pengyu remained positive as he did not lose his grip over the pace of rallies and easily took the game with a sensational margin of 21-10.
Pengyu overpowered his opponent in this thrilling fight with a superb score of 18-21, 21-6 and 21-10.
