Badminton Asia Championships: Inthanon Ratchanok beats Tsz Ka Chan in Women’s Singles first round
Thailand’s top player Inthanon Ratchanok had to work extra hard to clear her opening hurdle as she narrowly defeated Hong Kong’s Tsz Ka Chan in Women’s Singles first round on Wednesday, April 18, at Qingdao, China.
The World Number 10 Inthanon, who has been seeded at number eight in Women’s Singles main draw of Asia Championships, employed everything she had in her arsenal to chuck out Tsz Ka by a tight score.
On the other hand, Tsz Ka played remarkable badminton against her higher ranked Thai rival but failed to maintain her positive run in the ending points and lost the contest with a respectable margin.
In the opening set, Inthanon was flawless in the court as she played with superb variations in her shots and also remained comfortable in taking the bird from all areas of the court.
The higher ranked Thai player was quite smooth in her movement in the court and she easily took a wonderful lead until the one-minute interval.
After the break, Tsz Ka tried to play aggressive game but again failed to put up good show as her higher ranked opponent was in full control of rallies.
Inthanon easily bagged the opening set of this contest with a tremendous score of 21-11.
In the second game, Tsz Ka played positive and composed game this time as she did not let Inthanon to take lead in the opening half.
After the one-minute interval, Inthanon changed her tactics but failed to dominate the pace of rallies and eventually lost the second game with a decent score of 17-21.
In the final set, both ladies played entertaining badminton in the opening rallies and also remained close on the board until the mid-game interval.
After the one-minute break, Inthanon was composed in the court and she did not execute risky shots this time.
Thai shuttler was fully focused and remained successful in winning the game with a four-point advantage by a 21-17 score on the board.
The higher ranked Inthanon won this tough three-set contest in 49 minutes with a decent 21-11, 17-21 and 21-17 margin on the board.
