Badminton Asia Championships: Ki Jung, Sa Rang wear crown in Men’s Doubles event
The Men’s Doubles team of Korea, Kim Ki Jung-Kim Sa Rang outclassed Japanese pair Hiroyuki Endo-Kenichi Hayakawa and sealed the crown in Badminton Asia Championships on April 22, 2012.
It was a smooth ride to victory for the Koreans as they seized the honour in just two games which lasted for 34 minutes.
The decisive margin of 21-12 and 21-16 was proof of their dominance over higher ranked opponents in the title match of the event.
Men’s Doubles team Ki Jung-Sa Rang, who was underdog earlier in this Championship, performed beyond expectation throughout in this event as they stamped top seed Chinese duo Biao Chai-Zhendong Guo in semi-final round.
They continued with their top form in final match and fetched Asian Champion title for their country.
On the other hand, the World Number 14 couple Hiroyuki Endo-Kenichi Hayakawa could not live up to their billing and knelt down against unseeded rivals.
Koreans launched a brisk attack in opening game and gained a three-point advantage in no time. They raised their lead to 11-6 until the interval.
After mid-game break, the opposing pair Hiroyuki Endo-Kenichi Hayakawa tried to narrow the gap with couple of good rallies but they could not catch their competitors.
Ki Jung and Sa Rang accelerated their pace in later part of the set and added four consecutive points to reach at 19-12 score.
They found no trouble in game point situation also and bagged first match point with a notable margin of 21-12.
In second and final game of the match, the Japanese put a good fight and remained close to their challengers in most part of set.
At the beginning, the Koreans established a comfortable lead by putting decent margin of 9-4 but they committed some mistakes which allowed their opponents Hiroyuki Endo-Kenichi Hayakawa to level score at 9-9.
Until one-minute break, partnership of Ki Jung and Sa Rang was struggling against their superior rivals.
However, they found their lost chemistry in later part of the game as they first equalled the score at 15-15 and then blew away their rivals with five consecutive points. The Champs sealed the crown with scoreboard flashing final figure of 21-16.
