Badminton Asia Championships: Minatsu Mitani ousts Juan Gu in Women’s Singles first round
Japan’s upcoming player Minatsu Mitani proved that she is ready to shine in bigger events as she ousted Singapore’s experienced shuttler Juan Gu in Women’s Singles first round of Badminton Asia Championships 2012 on Wednesday, April 18, in China.
The un-seeded Minatsu was impressive while playing against Juan and emerged as the winner in a hard-fought three-set encounter.
The Japanese lady worked really well in the court and entertained the crowd with her remarkable performance for 50 minutes.
On the other hand, Juan could not show her brilliance as she received a severe treatment from her opponent and lost the fight in with a tight margin.
Minatsu started her run in this contest in a tremendous way as she played flawless badminton and remained in superb control in the first half of the game.
Until the one-minute interval, Minatsu was in complete command of the game as she established a comfortable lead.
After the break, she continued playing top quality badminton and did not let her rival to fight back in the game at any stage.
The Japanese found not resistance at all from Juan in the first set and bagged it with a spectacular margin of 21-10.
In the following set, Juan became quicker in taking the bird and managed to put up strong resistance. She was positive in the court this time and remained close to Minatsu until the mid-game interval.
After the break, both ladies continued their attacking play and reached at the ending phase while remaining equal on the score board.
However, Minatsu could not produce finishing shots at this crucial stage and lost the set with a 19-21 score on the board.
In the deciding set, the contest became interesting when both ladies progressed with an impressive speed but without taking a lead. Until the interval, the score was very close.
After the break, they again showed their brilliance as they employed all of their tactics.
However, it was Minatsu who remained successful in the end as she played better badminton and grabbed the set with a 21-19 margin on the board.
Minatsu won this Women’s Singles thrilling contest in 50 minutes with nail-biting margin of 21-10, 19-21 and 21-19.
