Badminton Asia Championships: Shao Chieh Cheng defeats Wang Lin in Women’s Singles round-of-16
Chinese Taipei’s Shao Chieh Cheng had to dig into her reserves to get rid of China’s Wang Lin in Women’s Singles round-of-16 contest at the Badminton Asia Championships 2012 on Thursday, April 19, in Qingdao, China.
Shao Chieh, who is seeded at number seven in the main draw of Asia Championships, had to work really hard to beat Lin who had the support of home fans.
However, the Taipei lady managed to win the contest in three games by taking 49 minutes in the court.
On the other hand, Lin played tremendous badminton against her higher ranked opponent and stretched her into rub games.
However, the Chinese could not maintain her upper hand in deciding game and lost the battle with a decent margin.
In the first game, Shao Chieh could not find a good rhythm as her Chinese opponent was impressive in the court.
The higher ranked Taipei player also committed a few unforced mistakes which helped her opponent to set up a good lead until the one-minute break.
After the break, Shao Chieh tried to catch up her opponent but failed to bridge the gap on the score board. She lost the game with a five-point margin of 16-21.
In the second set, both ladies played attacking badminton in opening points and remained close.
However, Shao Chieh changed her tactics and worked well on the net which helped her to set up a reasonable lead on the board.
Shao Chieh continued her positive run in the concluding part of second game and managed to win the set with a decent score of 21-18.
In the deciding set, it was Shao Chieh who displayed her elite skills by playing positive and perfect game.
She was in commanding position in the match and set up an amazing gap until the mid-game interval.
After the break, Shao Chieh remained on track as she was quicker in creating gap and manipulating her rival’s loop holes. She took the second game easily with a one-sided 21-11 score on the board.
Shao Chieh bagged this pre-quarter-final battle in 49 minutes with an interesting margin of 16-21, 21-18 and 21-11.
