Badminton Asia Championships: V Shem, Lim Khim Wah make into Men’s Doubles pre quarter-finals
The Men’s Doubles team of Malaysia, Goh V Shem-Lim Khim Wah made their cut into second round of Badminton Asia Championships by beating Bang Duc Bui-Manh Thang Dao in the first round match on April 18, 2012.
It was a sitting duck hunt for V Shem-Khim Wah as they stole the limelight by registering impressive figures of 21-12 and 21-11 in just 20 minutes.
This first round win took them into the pre quarter-finals where real challenge awaits them as they will be up against World Number nine pair Fang Chieh Min-Lee Sheng Mu.
In their opening match of the event, the Malaysians displayed superior badminton skills to prove their worth. They kept their rivals busy just in returning their masterly crafted strokes which ultimately helped them to advance into the next round.
World Number 30 pair V Shem-Khim Wah unleashed their tremendous talent in the opening set and proved their authority over Vietnamese shuttlers. They established an unassailable lead with 11-7 score in first half of the set.
After the interval, they made some mistakes which allowed their rivals Duc Bui and Thang Dao to add five points in their total but it did not harm the Malaysians as they ended the first set with the scoreboard flashing 21-12 score in their favour.
The Vietnamese tried to stand in front of their invasion in the next game as they managed to stay equal until 6-6 score position but V Shem-Khim Wah managed to raise their total to 11-6 before mid-game break.
In later part of second set, the Malaysians did not give their competitors even a single chance to rise and wrapped the show by playing really fast badminton.
Duc Bui and Thang Dao could match their game speed and surrendered when scorers showed final figures of 21-11 and announced V Shem-Khim Wah winners of this battle.
Malaysia will be banking on this victorious duo as none of their other campaigners could survive in the first round.
The veteran duo Mohd Lutfi Zaim Abdul Khalid-Vountus Indra Mawan got pale in front of Korean pair Chen Hung Lin-Yu Lang Lin while Thien How Hoon-Wee Kiong Tan bowed out against Alvent Yulianto-Hendra Aprida of Indonesia.
