Badminton Asia Championships: Wang Zhengming overpowers Sai Praneeth B. in Men’s Singles round-of-16
China’s in-form player Wang Zhengming showed his elevate craft when he toppled India’s Sai Praneeth B. in Men’s Singles round-of-16 contest at the Badminton Asia Championships 2012 in China, on Thursday, April 19.
Zhengming, who is currently ranked at number 14 in world rankings, proved his superiority in the court as he managed to overpower spirited Praneeth in an interesting straight-set fight.
The Chinese, who was the eighth seed in the event as well, played with confidence and remained successful in ending the fight in 40 minutes.
On the other hand, Praneeth failed to continue his impressive run in the tournament as he could not cope up with the impressive skills of Zhengming and lost the fight without creating a considerable impact.
Zhengming lived up to expectations as he was the favourite to win this contest and he did not disappoint his home fans.
In the opening set, Zhengming was aggressive in his approach as he did not spare even a single chance for his lower ranked Indian opponent to occupy the driving seat.
Zhengming remained in complete control and pushed his opponent everywhere in the court with his impressive play. Until the break, the Chinese was miles ahead on the score board.
After the interval, Praneeth tried to give a good fight to the in-form Chinese but failed to destroy his defence and remained behind on the board.
In the meanwhile, Zhengming continued his focused run in the court and clinched the first set with a superb 21-9 score on the board.
In the second set, Praneeth played with precision this time as he accelerated his speed in all areas of the court and managed to progress closely against his opponent.
On the other hand, Zhengming tried to maintain his upper hand in the second game but failed as his lower ranked opponent was quicker this time.
Until the interval in second set, both men remained close without setting up a comfortable lead.
After the interval, Zhengming managed to take charge of rallies and took a reasonable lead in the ending points of second set and bagged it with a reasonable score of 21-18.
Zhengming won this battle easily with a remarkable score of 21-9 and 21-18.
