Badminton Asia Youth Under 19 Championships 2012: Momota Kento grabs Boy’s Singles title
Momota Kento, a spirited shuttler from Japan, proved his mettle on court as he grabbed Boy’s Singles title after beating Malaysia’s Soong Joo Ven at the Badminton Asia Youth Under 19 Championships 2012 on Saturday, July 7, in Korea.
The talented Japanese player, who was seeded at number three in the championship, made his presence felt to the world as he brushed aside his talented opponent Soong Joo in a thrilling fashion.
The higher ranked Momota, who has been putting up staggering performance against all shuttlers throughout the tournament, continued his lofty performance in the final battle and overpowered his rival in straight games with a reasonable margin.
The sixth seeded Soong Joo, who defeated many top shuttler in his way to final, failed to get rid of his higher ranked Japanese opponent and lost to him in 34 minutes.
Momota started his run in the title match in an impressive fashion and created pressure on his rival at the initial stage of first game.
The Japanese boy put up a spirited display of powerful smashes coupled with impressive drives in all areas of the court and remained ahead until the break.
After the interval, he did not lose his focus at any stage and also kept a huge difference on score board all the way to end up the game with a superb margin of 21-13.
The following game as absolutely thrilling when Soong Joo lifted up his level of play and troubled his rival by executing powerful smashes from base line.
Until the one-minute break in second set, both boys were close as no one could grab a comfortable lead this time.
The score continued in the similar tight fashion after the interval as both shuttlers remained at their best speed. They were positive throughout the battle and reached at 20-20.
Momota showed an amazing temperament at this crucial stage as he controlled his nerves and waited for the opportunity to earn points. His controlled play at the ending points earned him second game with a tight score of 22-20.
The higher ranked Momota won the title after beating Soong Joo in final battle with a decent margin of 21-13 and 22-20.
